Mid Year Days Away 2024

What to Expect

Mornings:
Each morning we will engage in practical seminars that will help you to think through common issues that International Students face in Australia.

Afternoons:
Each afternoon will be an opportunity to explore Melbourne through trips into the City Centre.

Nights:
Each night we will have an opportunity to see what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Wednesday Day Trip:
On Wednesday we will be taking a day trip to the Great Ocean Road to view the Twelve Apostles. This is included in the expenses.

Venue & Transportation

Venue

The venue for Mid Year Days Away is Parkmore Hotel in Parkville, Victoria.

Transport

You will need to book your own flights to attend Mid Year Days Away. Please book your flights to arrive before 4pm, as this will allow you to arrive at the venue by 5pm.

As at the time of writing, Jetstar was offering flights from $87 to Melbourne and $87 return. It is recommended to book flights earlier before prices rise.

Within Melbourne, we will be travelling to the city and back. At the airport you should purchase a Myki card to allow you to travel on public transport in Melbourne.

Registration & Payment

The final deadline to register and pay for Winter Conference is midnight on Wednesday 22nd May. We encourage you not to leave this until the last minute!

Part Time Attendance

You are welcome to only attend a part of Mid Year Days Away if necessary, but you will still have to pay the full fee.

What to Bring

Please prepare to bring the following items with you to Mid Year Days Away:

- Clothes for cool/wet weather (including a warm jacket as it can get very cold at night)
- Toiletries
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Keep cup (if you want hot drinks)/water bottle
- Medication (if you require this)
- OSHC/Medicare card (if you have one)
- Passport

Optional items:
- Umbrella
- Board Games, craft or other activities for free time
- You may like to bring your own: basketball, soccer ball, tennis racquet/balls, table tennis bat/balls, frisbees
- Snacks (morning tea, afternoon tea and supper will be provided)
- Powerboard/double adaptors for your bedrooms
- Money to pay for lunch, transport around Melbourne.
- Hand sanitiser (if you prefer to use your own).

Winter Conference is a drug and alcohol free event; please do not bring these items.

Can I invite friends who are not part of Power to Change to come?
Yes! Students who are not part of Power to Change are welcome to come! Mid Year Days Away is for all young adults ...

What is the accommodation like?
You can view the accommodation via their website at parkmorehotel.com.au.

What other costs will I need to pay?
All breakfast and dinner meals are included in the cost of the conference. You will need to arrange your own lunch (e.g., by attending a nearby restaurant). You will need to pay for your own transport to and from the conference and any travelling during the conference (e.g., the cost of a tram).

Who will I be rooming with?
You will be allocated a hotel room with someone else of the same gender (except in the case of families and married couples). During the registration process you can indicated if there is someone you would like to room with and we will do our best to put you with one of these people.

I can’t afford the cost of Mid Year Days Away, what can I do?
We have been blessed by other Christians, churches and alumni who want everyone to be able to experience the blessing of Mid Year Days Away. As a result we have some funds to be able to assist those who would not otherwise be able to attend as a result of finances.
